The Captain Gerald F. DeConto USN Veterans Memorial Stadium will be a Sandwich treasure for years to come!

We are very appreciative of the $1.3 million grant from the Sandwich Community Preservation Committee and the $500,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts"

We are a tax-exempt, non-profit Massachusetts corporation dedicated to building a memorial to one of our fallen and other veterans a premier sports facility at Sandwich High School for the students and the Sandwich community.

We propose a "living memorial" to Captain DeConto and to other veterans who died while serving their country on active duty. Our preliminary design for the entry courtyard captures this intent with a more traditional memorial monument. Every person entering the facility must pass by this memorial and be reminded of the sacrifices made for our freedom by our service men and women.

Opportunities for individuals to purchase inscribed pavers on the walkway benches or trees leading up to the monument to remember their own or just to support the project will be available as well. In addition to the entryway, we propose a premier athletic facility to serve as the "living" portion of the memorial. A place where students can strive, sacrifice, reach, and learn as Captain DeConto and other brave Sandwich veterans did. Specifically the project entails resurfacing of the field with synthetic turf, installing a synthetic track, and adding stands and acceptable lighting, press box, concession stands, restrooms, a storage facility and security fencing. The facility will be designed for Athletic events, such as Track & Field, Football, Soccer, Lacrosse and other community events.

We have a preliminary design for the facility. JJA Sports of Westford, Massachusetts has drafted a plan depicting the facility and track configuration, spectator seating, support buildings, general grading, site accessibility, and many new and exciting features. The Committee continues to work on raising additional community investment. Contributions to date include a $250,000 pledge from the DeConto Family of Sandwich, a $500,000 commitment from Sandwich's Community Preservation Committee, two grants totaling $150,000 from the Massachusetts Office of Tourism, and the Board of Selectman have approved the $2,000 per month for 20 years from the Sprint/Nextel Agreement to be used for maintenance of the complex; $26,000 various funding events.
